Foreign Direct Investment and World Pandemic Uncertainty Index: Do Health Pandemics Matter?

This paper explores the impacts of health pandemics on foreign direct investment (FDI) using new world pandemic uncertainty index (WPUI). We investigate effects pandemics, including COVID-19, FDI based a sample 142 economies and sub-samples (incomes regions) from 1996 to 2019. The two-step system Generalised Method Moments estimation linear dynamic panel-data model (DPDGMM) is used in this study. results are robust with sequential (two-stage) models (SELPDM) (BBGMM). show that have negative FDI. Significantly, caused by creates adverse shocks net inflows Asia-Pacific countries emerging economies.
